2 Months Old and Growing

How Things Stand:

Much has happened in the garden since our last update.  Two months have elapsed since we tilled and planted and the garden is happily thriving and producing.  We've gone from this:

To this in the span of 8 weeks:

Evolution of a bed:

This is a kale/ lettuce bed on June 23rd:

Same bed on July 11th:

And again on August 12th:

And on August 27th:

The Bean Frame:

We built the frame for the runner beans on June 23rd:

This is how they're doing as of August 4th:

New Garden Furniture:

We built a new rinse table and have been putting it to good use:

Manure!

We recently discovered a local goat farm which is happy to supply us with as much "good chit" as we can haul away.  Here are the 53 little souls who provided the goodness.

We're fortunate they have a loader, it's no fun filling the truck by hand.

It's already well-aged so we were able to till it directly into the bed we had reserved for our late lettuce crop.  It will be planted in the next week or so.

Greens Aplenty:

We've recently begun supplying a nearby hotel with our greens.  They're particularly fond of our artichokes...which are legion.

The chefs like our multiple varieties of kale too: big, bigger and biggest.

Let It Grow:

These are the days of weeding and watering

Stay tuned...

Well, here I am (part of the Griffiths diaspora) sitting in the South of France looking through the photos of Frog Hollow Garden. What fantastic work has been going on over the past few weeks. All of you have done an amazing job. I am not surprised local chefs are queuing up for your organic veggies.
Here, we have harvested a bit of Provençal lavender and almonds from the tree in next door's orchard. Mean pickings compared to the Frog Hollow plenty.
Keep up the good work team!

Bon jour to thé Griffiths' enjoying southern France!
As the main weeder (having no other skills!) your compliments are greatly appreciated. Just wish you were all here again to help enjoy the bounty! Our divine leader, your uncle Dave, works magic every year!
    Enjoy your time in France!

What a wonderful garden spot! A group of us tramped down to the garden area to go blackberry picking (which surrounds and protects (?) the garden) but were drawn as if by a magnet to tour this lush green vegetable area first. Many oohs and aahs were spent as well as wistful sighs accompanied by "I wish my garden looked like this". So, not only were we so very impressed with the garden, we then went on to picking the biggest blackberries ever just next to the garden!

Everything looks so beautiful! I love the new rinsing stand. I hope the backs of your weeders are holding out! Like Marcus, I am not surprised the chefs are seeking you out.

It is now nearly is now nearly October. How things have changed. You have all worked so hard this year and the photographs really do show what a fantastic job you have all done. I have just spoken with Dave and told him not to go outside so please make sure he doesn't. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to seeing more of those beautiful autumnal colours that are now appearing.
Once again, well done on a fantastic growing season and the success you have had with the local restauranteurs.
