August in the garden:

Greetings,

A month has passed since our last blog update and, as you see in the photo above, the garden has matured beautifully.  We've had a couple of rough spots: an aphid infestation which began in the forest of seed kale and spread to the adjacent beds; and a mystery illness(s) in the spud bed we planted in April which has left the Kennebec variety nearly inedible.  It wouldn't be gardening though without a certain amount of heartbreak and woe.  However, due to our earlier start this year, we had an excellent pea harvest and have been enjoying vegetables we wouldn't normally see until September or October.  We may even get a good crop of storage onions this year and the extra hot and dry weather this summer has given the tomatoes a solid chance at ripening.

In Other News:

Recently, our Designated Sh*t Shoveler/Garden Manager contrived to injure herself in such a way that she is currently useless in the garden.  The good news is that everyone else in our little club has pitched right in to cover the DSS's usual duties and we've even had friends come and help with weeding and other glamorous tasks.  So Thank You to any Friends of Frog Hollow who may be reading this.  The other good news is the DSS has finally had time to update the website--which hadn't been done since September 2014.  I should break my hand more often.

Finally...

The garden's Watch Frog has been praying for Emancipation Day for a long time...

...and it finally arrived in Oregon July 1st.
